Did you know The Pittsburgh Promise can pay for your college? It's an oppurtunity of a life time!Everyone deserves a chance at college. Some people don't have money for college. Some want an education that will make their future.
They provide up to forty thousand dollars as a scholarship to pursue a higher education. They reform the urban public schools so that students start off on the right foot to college. With the promise, students
In 2009, the Pittsburgh area experienced its first positive net domestic migration since the early 1990s, with more people moving into the region than out of it. Also in 2009, the Pittsburgh Public Schools experienced its smallest percentage of enrollment decline in five years and an uptick in kindergarten enrollment.
To date, The Pittsburgh Promise has provided 1,690 scholarships to graduates of the Pittsburgh Public Schools' classes of 2008 and 2009. The class of 2010 will add approximately 750 more students to this scholarship initiative.
During the past two years, The Pittsburgh Promise has invested approximately $8 million in funding scholarships to students attending 46 different Pennsylvania colleges, universities, and technical and trade schools.
Designed to raise $250 million to support eligible high school graduates, The Pittsburgh Promise currently has financial commitments of $40 million from the region's corporations and foundations. Additionally, The Pittsburgh Promise was launched with an initial $100 million challenge grant from UPMC in which every $1.50 raised by the community is matched with $1 from UPMC, with the goal of raising up to $250 million total over 10 years. Pending a final audit, the Promise's fund-raising efforts from the past year will yield approximately $7.6 million in a matching grant from UPMC, which together with the $11.3 million raised by the Promise, creates a total of approximately $19 million for the 2009/10 school year.
In 2009, the Pittsburgh Public Schools was one of only three districts in the nation that won a highly competitive $40 milliongrant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support its Empowering Effective Teachers plan, in part, due to the presence and impact-to-date of The Pittsburgh Promise.
The UPMC/Pittsburgh Promise Report Card includes data, results and stories to support the program's three long term goals: mitigate and reverse population declines in the City of Pittsburgh and enrollment declines in Pittsburgh Public Schools; grow the high school completion rates, college readiness, and post high school success of all students in Pittsburgh Public Schools and deploy a well-prepared and energized work force and an eager core of community supporters.

Video games are very popular today.Almost everybody I know plays video games at least once a week. The validity of video games as an activity for teens may be a ba d idea for teens. Some video games are unhealthy for young adults. Video games effects how teens grow up.
Do video games effect how teenagers grow up?Video games make teens think shooting and killing is okay because the characters on tv don't get in trouble. When teens grow up,have kids, and get married, they won't know the right way to treat them. When kids go to school they talk back to teachers and get into fights.I just explained how video games effect how teenagers grow up.
Video games don't help you learn anything good.Teens spend more time playing video games than they do studying ,and its probably failing them.Kids go to school and bring drugs and weapons.Video games might have a big impact.Teens should play sports, read, and helping parents around the house, its productive!I just explained why most games don't help teens learn anything good.
Lastly, video games gives bad ideas.Video game players may be the people who don't learn, have mood swings, and are bullies.Video games make kids have nightmares. They can't sleep or function right.Wouldn't you rather teens hang out with friends or volunteer.I just explained how video games have a bad impact.
Avoid saying "I will tell you about" and just say "Lastly, Video games also give kids bad ideas."
Allthough kids like video games not all of them are good for you. They effect hoe kids grow up.Video games don't help you learn anything. They give you bad ideas.
It all started on a warm and sunny afternoon.Tonight was the talent show and I just knew I would win first place. When I woke up I took a shower, brushed my teeth, and brushed my hair.Next,I put on a lavender dress, purple tight, and black wedges.I went downstairs to show off my outfit because honestly I liked the way I looked.
Good intro with vivid description.
My mom was already in the car!I "Lock the door",she said. The talent show started in two hours and I was really confident. At two thirty we were backstage practicing.I'm singing "Who Says" by Selena Gomez. She's my favorite singer and actor of all time.
I looked up at the clock and saw that it was four-fifteen!Only fifteen more minutes before the crowd looks at me and expects me to be perfect.I was terrified! All of that confidence went down the drain. There was only one person in front of me!We all knew second is the worst. The stage smelled musty and I felt like I was out of place.
When they called me up I asked myself something. Can I do it?"Are you ready",my mom asked?I just nodded and started singing.I did it!I won first place!I felt so good,I thought I was smiling in my sleep.I knew that if I tried I could do it!
Edesha- you are a very good writer. Keep writing. I am looking forward to reading the entire narrative.
Edisha- You are a very good writer. I think that the place that this paper can improve is in the description. You could talk about your feelings or the way that kayla acted in different situations. Instead of saying, "We met at Splash Lagoon" you could say "We met on a a hot summer day when my family and her family had taken a day trip to splash lagoon." You could also spend more time describing the setting of these places (philly, arcade, etc). Just try to use more adjectives.
Character Sketch
My bestfriend Kayla Shaw is the greatest person in the world. We met on a hot summer day when my family and her family had taken a day trip to Splash Lagoon last summer and we had so much fun together! We got on every ride there. We stayed in the same hotel and when I came to her hotel room her parents gave us popcorn and we watched a movie.
Kayla has long brown hair and brown eyes.I found out that Kayla lives in Philadelphia,so I was really mad that i couldn't see her but we figured out how to video chat. When we talked on the phone she would talk about boy troubles and family troubles. We even shared our deepest secrets.
Right before school started back,I went to Philadelphia to visit my brother at Cheyney University.I called Kayla and was so excited about the news! Our parents thought it would be good for us to see each other again. When I saw Kayla she looked completely different. She cut her hair and she wore basketball shorts instead of the dresses I saw her in at Splash Lagoon.
She told me that she changed her look and honestly,i was shocked.I liked the new her,it was relaxed. We went to dinner and then shopping. We took a ton of pictures so we would never forget each other. It was so nice to have a real friend that really understood me.
The last day in Philadelphia was great! We got our nails done and we went to an indoor arcade. I hugged Kayla for two whole minutes before we left Philadelphia.Kayla is and always will be my bestfriend!
I will explain the differences between the history of boxing and boxing today.
Boxing is one of the most popular games, especially in Europe and America.Legends like Muhammad Ali,Jack Johnson,Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano have brought worldwide fame.Historical evidence lead to the fact that boxing was prevalent in North Africa in 4,000 B.C.The rules were crude then and boxers often indulged into lethal boxing rounds with leather taped on to their bare hands.
